CALLS have been made for urgent safety improvements on the A487 through a village near Aberystwyth after two horror smashes in as many weeks.
Councillors and residents have said that “something needs to be done” to curb speed and improve road safety through Chancery after two separate accidents left seven people hospitalised and a house uninhabitable in the early weeks of July.
An early-hours crash saw a car plough into the side of a Chancery cottage on Friday, 15 July, leaving three people injured - two seriously.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving for that incident.
On Thursday, 7 July, just 100 yards down the road, four people were taken to hospital after a two-car crash opposite the entrance to the Conrah Hotel.
The incidents have renewed long-standing calls for urgent safety improvements and a speed limit through the village.
The road is currently at the national speed limit with signs warning of a dangerous bend.
Local councillor Alun Lloyd-Jones said: “In my 26 years as a councillor I have been trying to make this section of the A487, and others, safer.
“It’s very frustrating when you know something needs to be done, you tell people it needs to be done, and nothing is done."
