TALIESIN residents calling for safety improvements on the A487 through the village have been backed by Ceredigion MP Mark Williams.

Frustrated residents have insisted that works need to be carried out on a range of issues, including lowering the speed limit through the village, setting new pedestrian crossings in place and the introduction of yellow lines on junctions to improve visibility.

Their call for improvements has been backed by Mr Williams who attended a public meeting in the village and urged the Trunk Road Agency and Welsh Government to take action to improve safety before a serious incident occurs.

He said: “This is yet another example of villages and communities in this constituency who are having to take their lives into their hands when passing or crossing the main roads.

“Our county council and indeed the Trunk Road Agency need to start listening to the real concerns on the ground from residents.

“I was incredibly heartened by the turnout at the public meeting in Taliesin. The local residents have sent a clear message that action needs to be taken. Some very simple measures could dramatically increase safety on the A487 through Taliesin, similar to measures taken at other points on the road, and there are no reasons for the Trunk Road Agency not to take these measures.”
