I read with interest your news item regarding a ‘call for action to secure future of ‘vital asset’, being discussed in the Senedd. A vital institution such as the National Library of Wales will always be expensive to maintain. I have been told that an extra £2m guaranteed every year would probably secure the NLW.

This is an awful amount of taxpayers’ money. I can understand the difficulty the Welsh Government is having finding this sort of funding. The Senedd are also planning to increase the number of Senedd members by 20/30. The cost in salaries would be, for 20 £1,352,980, and for 30 - £2,029,470. The savings by scrapping these unnecessary extra members would be more than enough to increase funding to the NLW. I’m also sure that there are millions of pounds wasted by the Welsh Government every year, which could be diverted to the library. So, do we need a National Library of Wales or 20/30 new Senedd Members?
