A Second World War hero and Aberystwyth stalwart celebrated his 100th birthday this weekend.
Walford Hughes MBE was joined by friends and family at Cartref Tregerddan in Bow Street to mark the special occasion.
Joining Mr Hughes on Saturday, 11 January, were Ceredigion County Council chairman Cllr Peter Davies MBE and his wife Barbara, and local councillor and Ceredigion’s Armed Forces Champion Cllr Paul Hinge.
Mr Hughes took part in many campaigns during the Second World War culminating in him being part of that ’Forgotten Army’ that served in the Far East and in Burma in particular.
Never forgetting what he and his comrades went through in Burma, Mr Hughes became the national secretary of the Burma Star Association and for his conscientious and diligent work for the association and its members, was awarded the MBE.
Mr Hughes now resides in Cartref Tregerddan where he enjoys all the care and attention a man who has selflessly worked for others deserves.
Cllr Hinge said: “It was an honour and a privilege to be a part of Walford Hughes’s 100th birthday celebrations.
“I’ve known Walford for over 40 years and reaching his centenary is absolutely amazing.
“I wish good health and happiness.”
