Madam, with regard to Mr Samuel’s letter last week bemoaning the number of politicians in this area, I would like to make him aware of something.

Assuming that the next UK General Election is held in May 2024 (despite the fact that the Fixed Term Parliament Act which made this date a legal requirement has now been scrapped) at that election the people of Wales will be voting for 32 MPs (down eight on the current tally of MPs).

Next year Ceredigion will be electing 38 councillors (down four on the current tally) and as he raised a reference to Pembrokeshire they will be electing 60 members (the same as at the moment). But the biggest change that Wales has experienced of late is the loss of four MEPs following this country’s exit (and it is becoming more than apparent, shoddy exit) from the European Union. Therefore by the time of the next Senedd election Wales will have lost four 4 MEPs, eight MPs and at least 50 councillors across the country, so surely a gain of some Senedd members must be welcomed as a fair trade off?
