I feel I had to write and tell people about this pent-up anger that I feel about the present situation and how coronavirus has brought it to the fore.

I am amazed at the level of greed and selfishness in our society today. There is no respect for other people, especially the elderly. I am 77 and was raised after the war years and I remember how hard it was with rationing etc. I also remember the thousands who died for us, and as kids we were taught to respect and appreciate what they did for us, but now we are in a situation where food is being taken out of the mouths of those very same people and also the people who help them.

Kindness and sympathy cost nothing. I am not one to stand in the way of progress, but why have so many left behind the hard-fought values of the human race, and what we can do for each other.

Just look around when you are out shopping, and you will see the attitude of people in this socalled modern world - respect for other road users, respect for older people in shops and cafés. There is too much “I’m alright Jack” attitude.

To all you panic buyers I say stop and think of other people for a change - you will see them on ‘poppy day’ at the cenotaph in November, at the moment you are taking the food out of their mouths.
