HEAVY rain is set to fall on north and west Wales throughout the weekend with a series of new warnings being issued by forecasters this morning.
A yellow weather warning for heavy spells of rain is currently in force across much of Wales and will run until 3pm today, with the Met Office saying 40-60mm of rain is likely to fall widely, with up to 100mm possible in some spots in north west Wales.
There will then be a few hours respite before the second warning comes into force.
Between 9pm tonight (Friday) and 9am on Saturday, a band of heavy rain will reach west Wales with a further 10-20mm of rain likely, with the possibility of 35mm of rain in some areas.
This heavy downpour hitting already saturated ground means that flooding is likely in places according to the Met Office.
This rain burst will be accompanied by strong and gusty southerly winds.
The next weather warning comes into force at 3am on Sunday where even more heavy rain is likely, this time in the north west of Wales, from Aberystwth up.
The first band of rain will only last up to three hours and will clear by late morning on Sunday, but again, 20-30mm of rain is likely.
Then from Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning, further spells of rain and showers will continue to impact this region bringing another 20-30mm to some locations in addition to that seen on Sunday morning.
The Met Office warning adds: “Recent heavy rainfall has left many places sensitive to more wet weather - and (rainfall) totals on Sunday could cause some further surface water flooding.
“The wind will also strengthen during this time, and although impacts from wind alone are expected to be very low, the wind will likely increase leaf fall from trees, which coupled with the rainfall will increase the risk of localised flooding and make travelling conditions even more tricky.”
