Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau will take place online once again this year, as a result of on-going coronavirus restrictions.

The organising committee said it had been eagerly awaiting an announcement that would allow the traditional Sesiwn Fawr to take place in Dolgellau town centre after postponing the annual festival in 2020 due to Covid-19.

Due to the current situation regarding the pandemic, the organisers have decided to arrange a different but innovative festival to celebrate the folk music tradition in Wales and beyond, following the success of their virtual festival in 2020.

Attendees are invited to celebrate by subscribing to a diverse package of top-quality music, literature and comedy sessions on the weekend of 16-18 July 2021.

Although this year’s Sesiwn will be in digital format, it will still draw on ‘live’ performances of artists from Wales and beyond.

Guto Lewys Dafydd, chair of the Dolgellau Sesiwn Fawr committee said: “It’s been an uncertain time for us as organisers.

"After postponing last year’s event we were obviously looking forward to inviting everyone back to Dolgellau this year to celebrate, but we must consider the health and wellbeing of residents as well as our supporters and volunteers.

"We are therefore arranging a virtual festival again this year and show support for our artists.”

Ywain Myfyr, festival secretary, said: “We are happy that we’re able to adapt our plans for Sesiwn Fawr and provide entertainment during these uncertain times.

"Circumstances permitting, we look forward to welcoming our audience back to Dolgellau in 2022, which also falls on the festival’s 30th anniversary.”
