THE Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwyswrw has bid a fond farewell to two of its most popular shire horses as they make their way to an exciting new life in the Middle East.
Dyfed JR and Caerberllan Joseph have been firm favourites on the farm for many years and JR in particular has long been associated with his famous big brother, Dyfed Grey Celt, who was sold to the Household Cavalry in London in 2008 and is now one of the Queen’s senior drum horses.
This link led to the interest and sale of JR and Joe to a royal family in the Middle East where they will be trained to join an Arabic household cavalry.
“We are very proud as a family to have been approached for the sale of potential drum horses to work in the Middle East,” said farm manager Mark Cole.
“Dyfed JR was named after my grandfather, John Rees Lewis, whose love and affection for the shire horses is the reason we opened the farm to the public 25 years ago.
“He would, I’m sure, be proud that his Dyfed breed from Eglwyswrw is now known and respected world-wide.
“JR and Joe will be greatly missed characters on the farm, but the opportunity for them to go and work and be treated like kings in their own right is an opportunity that we could not turn down."
