Warnings of heavy wind and rain have forced one mid Wales agricultural show to cancel its event this Saturday.

The committee of Llangurig Show said this afternoon: "Due to a Met Office weather warning in place for Saturday the decision has been taken to cancel the 2019 show.

"The committee is extremely disappointed but we would like to thank all our supporters and anyone who has contributed to the show effort throughout the year."

The Met Office has upgraded its weather warning for high winds across all of Wales on Saturday, with gusts of up to 50mph likely in places.

The strong winds are expected to cause some disruption throughout the day on Saturday, with power cuts and minor damage to temporary structures possible.

The Cambrian News approached the organisers of Llanilar Show, which also takes place this Saturday.

Jenny Davies, honorary general secretary of Llanilar Show, said that the show will still go ahead on Saturday in the Castle Field.

There is also a yellow weather warning for heavy rain on Friday night.

The Met Office warns: "A band of heavy rain, with the possibility of some very heavy bursts, will move northwards during Thursday night and Friday.

"Within this band 10-15mm is widely expected, however some places could see as much as 30mm in just a few hours. Once the rain has cleared scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, particularly during Friday.

"Many places will miss these, but where they do occur 10-20mm is possible in one hour, with perhaps 30mm in a few hours."
