THE Showtime Singers are hard at work in Aberystwyth on their most ambitious musical project to date.

Inspired by the enthusiasm of their musical director, they have chosen Stephen Sondheim’s thrilling, theatrical treat Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street as their next production.

Rehearsals are in their final stages with director Vivien Morgan and musical director Harry Jepson enjoying the challenge of Sondheim’s grisly tale, which is in turn funny, terrifying and sad.

Showtime are delighted to introduce some new talent in both principal and chorus roles.

Owen Watts takes on the challenging role of barber Sweeney Todd, ably abetted by Rae Lewis as Mrs Lovett, his partner in crime.

Sweeney Todd is the unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after 15 years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life.

When revenge eludes him, Sweeney swears vengeance on the entire human race.

The Showtime Singers present Sweeney Todd at the Castle Theatre, Aberystwyth, from Wednesday-Saturday, 6-9 April at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinée at 2.30pm.
