TWO singing sensations from the Llyn Peninsula are set to battle it out for a coveted scholarship and cash prize.

On Saturday, 14 October, two of the region’s most talented young performers will compete for £4,000 and the Urdd Gobaith Cymru Bryn Terfel Scholarship 2017.

Megan Llyn from Sarn, near Pwllheli, and Cedron Siôn from Porthmadog are amongst six finalists from across Wales competing for the prestigious accolade.

All the performances from the Sony Theatre at Bridgend College, Bridgend will be shown live on S4C with Trystan Ellis-Morris presenting the evening.

The scholarship was established in 1999 with the aim of encouraging new and exciting young talent in Wales.

“I’m very pleased to see the Scholarship going from strength to strength and to see once again such fantastic talent this year,” says Bryn Terfel in a message to this year’s competitors.

“Make sure as competitors that you listen and take the advice of the experts but at the same time, put a personal stamp on all your performances and be comfortable on stage. Also remember to control your nerves.

“More than anything, remember to enjoy each performance and give it your best shot. Go for it, this is your chance to shine!”

Megan studies an Acting course at Mountview Academy of Theatre and Arts, and is now an actress.

She says: “I’m so grateful to be part of this year’s scholarship. This is my final year competing with the Urdd so it’s a perfect ending to the many years I’ve competed."

Cedron is about to embark on his studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and he has his sights set on following a career as a professional actor.

“It’s thrilling to be part of the competition,” he says.

“I feel extremely grateful and lucky to accept the opportunity to be part of a notable competition such as this one that gives young people with love for the arts a priceless platform.”

Megan and Cedron will be joined by Daniel Jones from Cardiff; Harry Lovell-Jones from Cardiff; John Ieuan Jones from Colwyn Bay; and Sioned Llewelyn from Efailwen, near Clunderwen.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
