TWO Aberystwyth sisters have completed the hardest thing they have ever done by climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for a cancer charity.

“Kilimanjaro was certainly a challenge, but it was the adventure of a lifetime,” said Ruth, a choir leader from Aberystwyth. It was definitely the hardest thing we’ve ever done, but one of the most rewarding. We met some amazing people, shared some incredible experiences and made friends for life.

“The icing on the cake is that as a team we’ve raised over £100,000 for Tenovus Cancer Care!”

Ruth and Sarah were part of a group of 24 who took part in the fundraising campaign which saw travel over 6,000 miles to Tanzania and then climb the 5,895 metres to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro.

The group trekked for five days and on summit night, they walked for almost 12 hours in -15°C, 20mph winds and a snow blizzard — the worst weather Kilimanjaro has seen in years.
