Madam,

I can’t argue with Liz Saville-Roberts and her scathing attack on the banking sector (Call to change the law to protect last bank in town), following the closure of banks and ATMs, in our constituency, with little or no consultation with disenfranchised customers.

The situation in Tywyn is dire, with only one bank, with limited opening hours, and only two ATMs that were both out of order recently. Two of our friends who were visiting had no facilities to access their account, which is not good for tourism.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I can’t recall at the last Welsh Referendum the Welsh Assembly Government being allocated extra devolved powers over the finance and banking sector. So I feel that the Welsh Government could and should make an issue of the situation, in an effort to force Downing Street to take action.

The Westminster Government are the only people who can implement new laws on the financial institutions and those are the people our MP has the most influence over.

Our new prime minister, at her inauguration, swore she was on the side of ordinary people and, I quote, not the “privileged few”. She has now got the chance to turn her words into actions by sorting out this fiscal predicament, once again foisted on us by the bankers.

Yours etc,

George Buckley, Tywyn.
