A Pwllheli A-level student has fulfilled a lifelong ambition by winning one of the main awards at the Young Farmers Club Eisteddfod Eryri 2019.

Siwan Owen, who studies Welsh and sociology at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Pwllheli campus, entered her work into a writing category at the eisteddfod Eryri 2019.

The competition called for entrants to write prose poetry on the theme of ‘Tomorrow’, and Siwan was awarded the YFC Eisteddfod Eryri Crown for her work which told the story of a farming family dealing with the loss of a family member.

The judges said they were moved to tears reading Siwan’s work.

The talented Pwllheli student was elated that her writing had been recognised and rewarded.

“Winning one of the main awards at the YFC Eisteddfod Eryri has always been an ambition of mine, I feel like I have really achieved something special,” she said.

Siwan is a member of the Llangybi Young Farmers Club who were victorious at the end of the event for winning the most awards overall.

The competition is set to be tougher than ever at the YFC Eisteddfod Cymru on 30 November, which Siwan will now take part in.
