SIX Ceredigion residents will be honoured by the Gorsedd of the Bards at the Anglesey National Eisteddfod in August, organisers have announced.
The five men and one woman have been recognised for “their achievements and their commitment to Wales, the Welsh language and to their local communities across the whole of Wales”.
Four Ceredigion residents will be honoured with green robes for their contribution to the arts - Richard and Wyn Jones of Cardigan, Mari Rhian Owen of Aberystwyth and Jeremy Turner of Aberystwyth.
Richard and Wyn Jones are best known as the founders of the independent record label, Fflach, which has been an “important part of the Welsh music scene for decades,” the Gorsedd said.
They have a dedicated recording studio in Cardigan and are members of the Welsh-language band ‘Ail Symudiad’ which has been going for over four decades.
Mari Rhian Owen is an actress, author and educator, who has over 30 years of experience working in professional theatre. She is an expert in educational and community theatre, and works for Cwmni Arad Goch as their Actor Manager, leading workshops through drama. She also leads creative writing courses for undergraduate students and learners in schools, as well as running specific training courses for teachers.
She has been a PGCE Secondary Drama tutor at Aberystwyth University for 10 years.
She has also been responsible for devising and facilitating language activities through drama for 15 years in Ceredigion and Powys.
