A LITTLE girl has helped raise money by donating her hair to a cancer charity after the disease took away her grandfather and “best friend” last year.

Six-year-old Caitlin Gough-Pierce has lopped off a length of her hair to support the Little Princess Trust, an organisation which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Last July, Caitlin lost her ‘taidy’, Dennis Gough, after he was diagnosed with tumours of the spine. Just six weeks after his diagnosis, Dennis sadly passed away.

Caitlin, who was “thick as thieves” with her grandfather according to her mother Chloe Pierce, was devastated with the loss of her best friend and wanted to try and help other people who found themselves in a similar situation, especially children.

As a result, Caitlin and her grandmother, Fiona Gough, both travelled to Dolgellau from Tywyn last week to have their hair cut, sent off and turned into realistic wigs for affected children - all in memory of the much-missed Dennis.

Caitlin said: “My taidy died of cancer in July 2016. I loved him very much and miss him a lot. Because of this I want to raise money for children who have been affected by cancer."

Caitlin and Fiona have raised over £350. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Caitlin-Gough-Pierce.
