ABERYSTWYTH Town Council has been accused of employing a “code of silence” over the opening of the new skatepark.

There is currently no official date set for the opening of the Parc Kronberg skatepark and community area at Boulevard St Brieuc, which was originally slated to be open in September.

And with the apparent completion of the skate element of the project, which was funded through a £440,000 grant from the Big Lottery, the town’s skaters are wondering when they can use the facility.

It is rumoured that the skatepark will open to the public in early November, but a town council spokesperson said there was no date set.

Some skaters have already been seen using the skate element of the facility, which was designed and constructed by Freestyle and is closed off with fences.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, skateboarder Cynrig Williams said that while the majority of skaters are waiting patiently, they have been left frustrated at the “cloak and dagger” surrounding the opening.

Mr Williams said: “I think it sucks. Haverfordwest skatepark had massive PR and a big event to christen it and build up the hype.

Aberystwyth is like a wet blanket compared.

“The code of silence has been pretty detrimental.

“I think the people involved and the local community should have been treated with a little more respect and kept in the loop. Communication is key.

“As it is lottery money and not council-funded, I don’t see why it is all cloak and dagger.”
