A small Ceredigion village pub run by a husband-and-wife team is celebrating a hat-trick of accolades, including recognition in a UK-wide restaurant competition.

Tafarn Cefn Hafod, in Gorsgoch, is operated by Sean and Charlotte Emanuel, who have earned recognition across three separate hospitality and business award schemes.

The pub has been named a finalist for Best Restaurant at the UK Small Business Awards 2026, representing West Wales in the national competition.

It has also been shortlisted for Gastro Pub of the Year at the Food Awards Wales 2026, while the couple say they have won Best Gastro Pub of the Year at the Wales Prestige Awards 2027/28.

Sean runs the kitchen as head chef, while Charlotte manages front-of-house operations, with the pair largely responsible for the day-to-day running of the business. Sean said: “It’s difficult to put into words just how much this means to us. We work incredibly hard, and being recognised across three different awards competitions in such a short space of time is something we never expected. To have our little village pub recognised not only in Wales but now in a UK-wide Best Restaurant category is absolutely incredible.”

Beyond serving freshly prepared food, the pub provides a meeting place for the surrounding rural community, hosting local organisations, social gatherings and regular dining events.

Sean added: “We also want to thank our customers and our local community. Their continued support, recommendations and encouragement are a huge part of why we’re able to do what we do.”

The Food Awards Wales winners will be announced at a ceremony in Swansea on 30 November, while the UK Small Business Awards competition is expected to conclude in December.

For the couple, the recognition marks an encouraging milestone for their independently operated countryside pub, at a time where the industry needs all our support as customers.
