Madam,

I can only concur with the views put forward by David Haskell (‘Who needs a smart meter? Not me!’, Cambrian News, Letters, 14 March).

What use is a smart meter to the consumer? It only tells you what you are using at this moment, or it can tell you you have gone over budget. In my opinion it does not give me information that is usable.

I asked my electricity supplier to send me a csv file of my usage so that I could upload it into a spreadsheet and then analyse what and when I have used. No they could not, or rather would not, release that information.

The main advantages of the smart meter is that the energy companies no longer have to employ meter readers and they can get their accounts straight.

They are without doubt a win for the industry but do little to help the consumer understand their consumption of energy.

Yours etc Ronald Pateman, Llanon.
