A COMMUNITY scheme which lets elderly people in Porthmadog enjoy a good meal with company is celebrating its 80th get-together.

The Porthmadog Contact the Elderly group has been meeting every second Sunday since 2012 and, this month, they met up in Porthmadog Golf Club.

The group’s volunteer drivers pick up and drive the elderly members to the meeting each month, giving them a chance to chat and laugh together while enjoying something to eat.

With some members well into their 90s, the group’s co-ordinator, Simon Kenyon, pointed out that this month’s was the 80th tea-party that the group had held for local elderly people living on their own since the group formed in 2012.

He added that, throughout those years, the generosity of individuals and organisations that had offered to provide the Sunday teas illustrated the wonderful warmth of the society in which we live.
