THE recent centenary celebrations to mark the anniversary of the end of the First World War led to the discovery of these interesting images.
Chris Prichard from Llanwrtyd Wells in Powys, discovered them last month, and thought they would be of interest to readers.
“With the recent 100 year anniversary of the First World War, I was revisiting some old photographs of my grandfather, Frederick George Hemming,” Chris said.
“Amongst the photographs was the following which, due to the address, may be of interest.
“My grandfather lived in Birmingham and served with the 3rd South Midland Brigade RFA, which was, I believe, a territorial unit.
“He survived the war as can be seen from the Christmas day image.
“Unfortunately he died in the 60s after an accident.
“Who George Lynes and Miss Williams are, I do not know, unless friends of my grandfather.
“I don’t know whether those resident at the address now may find this of interest.”
The address on the postcard, which is stamped with Weston Super Mare, 4.15pm, 4 August 1909, and which could be of interest to Gwynedd readers, is in Barmouth.
The postcard reads: “Miss L Weaver, c of Rev J H Richards, Camping Party, Hendra Minach, Clanibar Rd, Barmouth.”
Chris believes Hendra Minach should be Hendre Mynach, and Clanibar Rd, Llanaber.
The message on the postcard says: “Dear Lily, Please do not forget to write back George. This is the address: Gunner W G Lynes, 3rd South Midland Brigade, RFA, No 2nd Battery, Berrow, Somerset.”
Chris has no idea who George Lynes or Miss L Weaver are. Do you? If so, please write to Julie McNicholls Vale, Cambrian News, 7 Aberystwyth Science Park, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, SY23 3LW, or email [email protected]
