ABERYSTWYTH seafront has again borne the brunt of another large winter storm as high winds, rain and large waves gave another spectacular display.

Storm Jonas, which was the tail end of a storm which brought over 30ins of snow to parts of the north eastern seaboard of the USA, hit Aberystwyth with its full force on Tuesday, with gusts of 47 knots — approximately 54mph — measured at Aberystwyth RNLI lifeboat station just before midday.

Again, the long-awaited new bandstand development on the north promenade was hit by large waves, which brought construction to a halt.

Jonas also continued another regular sight on the north promenade of late as large waves washed up shingle from the beach.

Winds subsided soon after, although rain has continued to dampen spirits.
