PEDESTRIANS in Llandysul are running the gauntlet of speeding motorists who are failing to observe the village’s new 20mph speed limit, according to a local councillor.

The speed limit was dropped from 30mph last month, but Cllr Peter Evans claims many drivers appear unaware of the change.

“If you drop down to 20mph coming into Llandysul you’re effectively down to second gear,” he told the Cambrian News. “Despite that, several people are still driving like fools through the village.

“These motorists get up a head of steam and are really flying through.

“There are quite a few things going on in Llandysul during the day, and these speeding issues seem more prevalent after 5pm when it goes quite quiet.

“The whole purpose of the new 20mph limit was to make things safer – the problem is that some people just don’t realise how fast they’re going.

“Some residents see speed bumps in places like Pencader and Alltwalis and ask why we can’t have the same here, although personally I’d like to avoid that if at all possible.”

Cllr Evans has now raised his concerns with local police who have pledged to monitor the situation.
