HARRY POTTER fans had a wizard time at special events in Machynlleth and Llanidloes libraries.Fans of all ages celebrated J K Rowling’s novels, enjoying wizarding games and quizzes based around the books and characters – with older children helping to pass the magic on to young readers who haven’t yet discovered the books.

It was the second Harry Potter Book Night: A Night of Spells, when an amazing 12,600 parties and celebrations held all over the world.Libraries across Powys opened their doors to children of all ages, dressed as goblins, witches and wizards and magical beasts, or their favourite characters. A Night of Spells was celebrated on Thursday, 4 February.

Cllr Graham Brown, Cabinet member for library services, said: “This was ultimately about the children being introduced to one of the most successful and spell-binding children’s writers of our time. “What better way to capture a child’s imagination than to be involved in these inspiring celebrations here in Powys and by joining others across the world to celebrate the power of reading.”
