Can I firstly thank your contributors to the question I posed in my original letter regarding the inadequate and what I and many others consider misuse of parking facilities at Bronglais Hospital.
Please let me correct the information contained in the three letters of reply:
1. I have never been the chair of the health board, I chaired the ‘patient watchdog’ the community health council, who I might add, at that time had a constant battle with that particular health board regime under the leadership of Trevor Purt and Chris Martin for the changes they wanted to implement, one of which was reducing the current car park from five to two tiers in the new build.
2. The majority of the money that has been earmarked for Bow Street Transport Interchange are from the UK government, so would not be in the gift of the Welsh health service to bid for, and if successful, use. The emotive use of the statement ‘seemingly very controversial’ doesn’t stand up, as there was only one objection to the overall plan which was rejected by planners as being unjustified on policy grounds.
I’ll move onto the lack of parking for staff (as indicated), their safety and wellbeing. On this I could not agree more. However, this is a matter for the health board. They have a legal responsibility for the health and wellbeing of their staff. If the shuttle service is not operating to cover the needs of the staff at the hospital, then that’s for hospital management to sort out, whatever time of day that might be.
That little old lady who I mentioned in my original letter was in her 80s worried sick about her husband who she had taken into A&E and was then having to park her car (after dropping him off) in Tesco car park after waiting over 40 mins for a space in the hospital car park, and then walk back to the hospital. If you find that acceptable then I’m afraid we will have to agree to differ!
