I’d like to support Cllr Woolfall-Jones in his call for takeaway food outlets to be made more responsible for their customers’ litter.

I have also noticed a proliferation of takeaway food containers (not always McDonald’s), drink cans and sandwich wrappers in the hedgerows on my lane and elsewhere beside the roads all over the county.

The worst incident I encountered were the remains of four full McDonald’s meals and drinks dumped at an isolated beauty spot in the Cambrian Mountains. We collected it and took it home to our bin, but I would have loved to have had their car registration. It is truly shocking that people are still throwing rubbish from their vehicles, presumably because they feel they will never be held responsible.

There is no doubt the litter problem has become worse since the advent of takeaway food. I think it’s a very good idea to somehow stamp takeaway containers with car registrations. I think there should be a campaign in all takeaway outlets, including supermarkets, to highlight the issue of litter thrown from cars and to educate consumers.
