I was appalled by the recent council decision to order a local town councillor to change a statement on social media where they stated that the council had not made contact with business owners Mr and Mrs Rowlands about the planned road closures in Aberystwyth town centre and the subsequent effect on their business.

It is my understanding from the post on social media from the councillor, that the council did not make contact with Mr and Mrs Rowlands initially, but did so only after the couple contacted the council.

Making the councillor make a statement to the effect that the council did contact Mr and Mrs Rowlands, is semantics.

Anyone with half a brain-cell can understand that if someone needs to chase after the council for vital information regarding their business, it cannot be perceived that any subsequent conversations the council may have had with the couple, is not the council acting proactively to support local businesses, but rather the council being negligent in their duty to local families and businesses.
