THE Vale of Rheidol Railway reopens today, after two weeks of being closed after the Rheidol Valley caught fire due to the long heatwave.
Vale of Rheidol Railway staff have worked hard with the fire crews to keep the fire under control with the weather causing more outbreaks along the valley.
One-and-a-half miles of valley above the railway has burnt causing damage to the line, stopping all trains from running.
The track maintenance team have spent the last week repairing the damage. This has caused major disruption to the railway at the beginning of its peak time.
A Vale of Rheidol spokesperson said: “We are relieved that the fires are out and we have been given the all clear to run our trains again.
"We have worked hard this week to repair the track. It has been a difficult few weeks for us but we are looking forward to welcoming visitors and locals on the railway once again.”
