AN ABERYSTWYTH man has had his beard shaved off for charity on the tenth anniversary of his dad’s cancer diagnosis.
Stefano Antoniazzi, whose father, Pier, ran the Express Café on Alexandra Road (now Express Fish & Chips) for 35 years, has been growing his distinctive red beard for the last three years.
Pier Antoniazzi, 72, who moved to Aberystwyth with his family from Italy when he was just 12 years old, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), a slow-developing blood cancer, 10 years ago.
“He was in the Express Cafe for 35 years,” Stefano told the Cambrian News this week. “He is a hard worker, he never complains and just gets on with it.
“He used to work from 5.30am to 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday, for 35 years. So to find out he had cancer after retirement was a bit of a shock.
“But dad being dad, he just gets on with it and takes it all in his stride — he is one of the great guys.
