Madam,
Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet looks set to threaten town and community councils with closing their loos unless they stump up £250,000. As this intended reduction doesn’t come into effect until April 2017, the council has plenty of opportunity to look elsewhere for cuts and to get its priorities right.
This year’s budget reveals that Gwynedd will somehow manage to snatch £1.2m from council tax revenue to make up a shortfall in the Assembly’s grant for “Outcomes Agreement”. There is also other eye-watering stuff. The Plaid Cymru-run Cabinet may feel that cleaning toilets is beneath its dignity, but unless or until things change at the next local government re-organisation, they should be left holding the brush.
Gwynedd Council should stick to what it’s being paid to do and stop trying to build castles in the sky at the expense of hard-pressed and badly-treated communities.
Yours etc
Cllr Jason Humphreys
Llais Gwynedd
