The announcement (Cambrian News, 24 December) of the submission of an application for a replacement building for the Store 21 shop in Aberystwyth presents an opportunity for an innovative development in Aberystwyth.

That opportunity is for an improved and safer bus station with waiting room, cafe and ticket sales, left luggage facilities and a tourist information office - all accessible, under cover, from the railway station. This would be an ideal transport interchange.

Such transport interchanges with tourist information facilities are common in many European countries and would, I am sure, encourage the use of ‘green’ public transport.

Of course, such a development would require co-operation between Ceredigion County Council and the developer - but this is a great opportunity. Surely Ceredigion council has the vision to seize it.
