A LLANRHYSTUD family were “blown away” by a kind stranger who gave a bike to their young son who has fought cancer.

Seven-year-old Evan Wells and his older brother Corey raised more than £3,000 for LATCH in 2016 after cycling from Nant yr Arian to Machynlleth with their father John and grandfather, with support from their mother Johanna and grandmother.

The big-hearted brothers chose to do the fundraising ride after Evan received support from LATCH while fighting a rare form of cancer, and their fundraising efforts captured the imagination of a local man who gave Evan and Corey a bike he had been looking to sell on eBay.

John said he had been interested in buying the bike on eBay, but had missed the bidding window.

He said: “That summer, Evan asked for a BMX bike for his birthday. Corey had been out on his and, as their birthdays are quite close, he asked for one, too.

“I was looking on eBay and found a bike locally that was as good as new but I missed the bidding. On the off-chance, I messaged the guy and asked him if it was still for sale.

“The reply surprised me. The seller asked ‘Are you the guys who did the charity bike ride?’ It turns out he’d been following our story as we’d been featured in the paper and had posted updates on social media.

“He said, ‘I think it’s really great what the boys did and I’d like to give you the bike for free’."
