A STREAM which runs along part of the perimeter of an Aberystwyth playing field has been described as a “dumping ground”.
The “beautiful” stream, which runs along part of the fence around the Blaendolau playing field, between the Vale of Rheidol Railway crossing in Llanbadarn Fawr and the River Rheidol, near Morrisons, is attracting litter louts, according to a resident.
Llanbadarn resident Tony Curwen said it was down to people who walk along the side of the road between Llanbadarn and the Morrisons roundabout and dispose of their rubbish in the stream.
He said: “We all pass by it, whether we are driving or walking, and it is a beautiful little stream. But it has become everyone’s dumping ground.
“Whether the lack of bins is partly to blame or not, I don’t know. People who buy these easy-to-buy drinks take them half a mile and then just throw them in the stream when they are finished with them. There is no excuse for it. I would just ask the people doing it, stop and think about what you are doing.”
A spokesman for Aberystwyth University wished to make it clear that the university does not own the land on which the ditch lies.
A Ceredigion council spokesperson said: “The council is responsible for the ditch and arranges for it to be cleaned periodically.”
