Madam,

We are pleased that Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn has joined Mark Williams MP in support of our ‘community-driven’ campaign to persuade the Welsh Gov-ernment to introduce effective speed-calming measures into and through the village of Tre-Taliesin (Cambrian News, last week).

From our own perspective on behalf of the A487 Taliesin Action Group it is vital that a strong and coherent voice is presented to Welsh Government if we are to persuade the minister to take action which brings about the improved safety of residents. This community voice is now rooted in an effective partnership between Taliesin residents, Llancynfelyn Community Council, our local MP, the leader of Ceredigion Council, and also the police and others. There have been many and varied contributions made to date by so many of those living in the village to drive forward this campaign. There was our initial letter and subsequent follow-ups in the Cambrian News; our e-mails to, and responses from, the minister and the Trunk Road Agency. Our very well-known resident, ‘Mannequin Speedy’, has been stolen twice, vandalised once, and even temporarily taken down by the authorities (following a churlish complaint), yet each time ‘Speedy’ has been replaced and is today still greeting drivers as they enter the village from the Talybont direction. An extremely well-attended public meeting with Mark Williams MP has been followed by another packed meeting hosted by the community council, each with a focus on listening, collecting and evaluating villagers’ views on the traffic-calming measures they would like to see introduced. These activities, and others not mentioned in this letter, demonstrate the commitment and determination of villagers to see this through to the end.The minister’s response to us has so far said: ‘We will be investigating possible safety measures for the A487 through Taliesin and Tre’r-ddÔl in the next financial year.”

We will strive to ensure that our voice, our ideas, plans and potential solutions form part of this investigation.

Yours etc

H Morgan
