Storm Dennis has claimed its first casualty this afternoon after Aberystwyth Farmers’ Market announced it was postponing this Saturday’s event.

Another weekend of heavy winds and rain looms as Storm Dennis sweeps across Wales, with two yellow weather warnings in place for wind and rain from 10am on Saturday until the end of Sunday.

Forecasters at the Met Office say that the impact of Storm Dennis is not expected to be as severe as Ciara last weekend, but disruption is still likely.

The wind weather warning comes into effect at 10am on Saturday and will last until 11.59pm on Sunday, with the strongest winds likely to be on Saturday afternoon.

Gusts of 50mph inland and as high as 70mph along the west coast are expected.

This could result in delays to road, air, rail and ferry transport, as well as problems for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

Power cuts and disruption to other services are also likely.

Up to 80mm of rain is forecast for Saturday and Sunday, with an amber warning in place for Cardiff and south-east Wales, with up to 140mm possible.

Following the weather warnings, Aberystwyth Farmers’ Market announced this morning that Saturday’s market is cancelled, but will be rearranged on Saturday, 22 February.
