ABERYSTWYTH University says it still intends to house students on the town’s seafront despite multiple evacuations and flooding safety fears over the past few years.
The town’s promenade has been battered by storms in recent years, with Storm Imogen rolling in last month forcing the temporary evacuation of halls of residence - with over 200 students bussed up the hill to be kept out of harm’s way.
Recent storms in 2015 and the early part of this year have seen Aberystwyth seafront battered by waves, ripping up paving slabs and delaying the building of the prom’s new bandstand.
The devastating storms of January 2014 saw all students evacuated for a number of days as 30 foot waves crashed against seafront buildings.
Students were holed up in alternative accommodation with warnings not to return.
Those planning on travelling back to Aberystwyth for the beginning of term, and to sit exams, were told to stay away while a clean-up operation began.
Despite the flooding fears from the storms, Aberystwyth university said it would continue to house students on the seafront.
