A fundraising campaign has been set up in memory of an Aberystwyth artist who was hit by a car while sleeping in a tent.

Anna Evans, 46, was struck by a car at Rhyd y Galen campsite near Caernarfon in the early hours of Monday, 19 August. She died at a hospital in Stoke on Tuesday, 27 August.

Talented artist Anna was well-known for her work and a fundraising page has been set up to create a community grant in her memory.

Family friend Stephen Griffiths, who has helped Anna’s relatives to set-up the fundraising page said: “We’re raising £5,000 to create the Anna Evans Community Arts Grant Scheme.

“She was an active member of the arts community in Aberystwyth and Ceredigion, working as a freelance artist as well as for Ceredigion Museum, The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales and most recently on a project called Cartref/Home based at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

“Anna’s work spanned the field of the arts from painting and printing, through to audio works and photography, with her roots firmly planted in the community.

“I, along with Anna’s friends, colleagues and family, would like her legacy to live on by introducing a community arts grant scheme in her name.

“The aim of this would be to give an annual grant to a creative person or group in Ceredigion to work on a community-focused project and that’s where we need your help.

“In order to keep Anna’s work alive, we need your donations. Please help us keep Anna’s work alive.”

The page, which was launched on Thursday, 5 September, has already raised £1,840.
