If so don’t miss the 2016 REUNION at the Edward Richard Centre, Ystrad Meurig on Saturday, 30 July from 11am to 5pm. The school opened for the first time as a Government School in March 1880, but closed its doors following dwindling numbers for the final time in July 2006, with over 1,200 pupils having attended the school. We are hoping to create a small exhibition of old pictures of the school, past pupils and staff. The display will also include memorabilia from our school days. Do you remember the school bell, the Princess Sophia roll of honour and of course the small one third pint milk bottles? There should be plenty to see whether you are a past pupil, past staff or are just curious. We would particularly welcome any stories/anecdotes and memories, photographs or documents – sent to us in digital format, if possible. All originals will of course be returned. To coincide with the reunion, at midday, there will be a service in St John’s Church, Ystrad Meurig led by the newly ordained and past pupil of Swyddffynnon school, the Rev Aled Lewis and Rev Ingrid Rose, former headmistress of the school.
