It is now four weeks into the coronavirus epidemic. The Conservative government, Welsh Assembly and county councils have left residents in the nursing and care home and home care sectors in the background with little if any support.
When the ‘Save Park Avenue Day Centre in Aberystwyth’ campaign started on 11.11.11 followed by ‘Save Bodlondeb Residential Care Home in Penparcau’, the main message at the vigil held every Saturday until the Mill Street Development replaced a purpose-built day centre, was to save care for the elderly in the public sector.
Still in its infancy, North Ceredigion Forum for the Elderly continues on its quest to highlight public concern in open meetings.
The coronavirus epidemic highlights the flaws in social services care. If a chain has one link missing, the chain is broken. The link between health services and social services care is broken. Coronavirus is now highlighting the divide and in my opinion deficiencies.
Where is the humanity for those in care homes and home care? Politicians, you must pass legislation to recognise responsibility for vulnerable citizens. You are citizens locally elected to protect life within the NHS. Why isn’t social services care embedded within the health service?
We must have an extraordinary inquiry to address the flaws in health service and social care.
At elections more than half of our population do not vote, because of the way the present system is governing our nation.
You do not answer questions. You are not transparent. We should have annual general meetings until we have a system that eventually will be fit for purpose to govern Great Britain.
We must have a system that makes education, emergency services, environmental and health services in the public sector functioning for all the citizens in our country. We are in crisis in all these services.
