TAILBACKS caused by traffic lights on Penglais Hill could last until the end of the month.
Since being established near Bronglais Hospital around midday last Monday, traffic lights have caused major disruption and delays for commuters, particularly during rush-hour traffic periods.
But the disruption may not be short-lived after Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, who are carrying out major works to renew 75m of water main, sent letters to local residents explaining how long it could take.
The letter reads: “Our contract partners DT Civils Ltd will start work on 4 January, 2016, and we anticipate it will all be finished by the end of January, 2016.”
A Freedom of Information request by the Cambrian News reveals that between 1 January, 2012 and 9 July, 2015, there have been 77 roadworks on Penglais Hill alone — an average of almost two per month.
A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “Welsh Water are carrying out major works to renew 75m of water main.
“The works are being carried out on Penglais Road near the hospital.
“The majority of the works have been carried out on private ground, but there is still a need to carry out works in the highway."
