Power Station
THE Ffestiniog Power Station was buzzing after a recent visit from the local MP last week.
Commissioned in 1963, the power plant in Tanygrisiau was the UK’s first major pumped storage power facility and still functions to this day.
MP Liz Saville Roberts paid her inaugural visit to the station at the start of the month and enjoyed a tour of the site, a presentation from the management team and a close up examination of the 50-year-old pump storage facility.
“I greatly appreciated the opportunity to see pump storage electricity in action at the UK’s oldest major power station of its type at Tanygrisiau,” Mrs Roberts said.
“Ffestiniog Power Station and its sister site at Dinorwig, Llanberis play an important role in the local economy – providing high-skilled jobs and nurturing new engineering talent from the local area.
“I look forward to hearing more about future developments at the site later this year.”
