TRANSPORT For Wales has put a taxi service in place at Llandanwg after people complained that a replacement bus service one mile uphill from the train station was not suitable.
The station closed at the start of the pandemic and a bus replacement service introduced once lockdown eased, but residents said it was difficult to get to.
Rosy Berry said: “The replacement bus stop is almost a mile uphill from the station, and it is extremely unlikely that anyone with a heavy suitcase could make it up that hill in the optimistic 10 minutes hinted at by the diagram. It will clearly not improve anyone’s journey, or indeed health. The bus stop on the main road is in Llanfair, not Llandanwg, where there is already a regular bus service.
“Elderly or disabled passengers and those without cars living in Llandanwg will find it impossible to use the “service” as offered.”
Now TfW has put a “call a taxi” service in place for anyone that wishes to catch the bus replacement service at Frondeg junction.
However, a spokesperson for Transport for Wales said it was not introduced following complaints but “due to the difficulties for the bus to turn around at Llandanwg station”.
“It is not stopping there and a ‘call a cab’ service is in place for residents instead”, the spokesperson added.
The stop will be out of use until 12 December when the next stage of restoration work on Barmouth Viaduct is completed.
