INDEPENDENT Living Skills students at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in Dolgellau have been busy for weeks planning and preparing for their Tea in the Garden event, held with the aim of raising funds for two charities, namely Barbara Bus Gwynedd and Anglesey and Gwynedd Mind.

It was a special morning, with several dozen college staff, students, schoolchildren from Hafod Lon, and friends and family all gathering together for a catch-up over a cup of tea and cake.

So popular was the event that there was a continuous and long queue for tea!

The event opened to fine weather in the gardens at the Dolgellau campus, with tea and a range of delicious homemade cakes being served by the students from a marquee.

Activities on offer included a raffle, lucky dip and a plant sale, and musical accompaniment was provided by Meilyr Wyn and a crew of Hafod Lon singers, with the audience joining in the fun.

Independent Living Skills tutor Morfudd Pughe Richards said: “The students really enjoyed the challenge of preparing for the event – not only did they learn many important skills along the way, more importantly they had a lot of fun doing so. From planning and baking the cakes to serving on the day, it was great to see the students’ enthusiasm and enjoyment. It was also great to see the lovely atmosphere in the gardens, with people chatting and joining in the activities. This year we raised £160 for Ynys Môn and Gwynedd Mind and £230 for the Barbara Bus Gwynedd. We thank everyone for their kind generosity.”
