A CAMPAIGN to raise money in honour of a little girl with a growth condition has more than tripled its original target.

Over £6,000 has been raised by Team Elena, a group dedicated to raising money for the Child Growth Foundation for the “immeasurable” help they offered to three-year-old Elena Kay and her family.

Elena, who lives in Dolgellau, has a condition known as Russell Silver Syndrome, a congenital condition which means Elena is shorter and slighter than her peers and has little interest in eating so is partially tube-fed.

Over recent months, the fundraising campaign and Elena’s progression has been going from “strength to strength”.

Initially Team Elena hoped to raise £2,000 with a fun run and a series of other activities but smashed that target within weeks.

Olwen Kay, the three-year-old’s delighted mother, said: “It’s been all about afternoon tea recently!

“Family and friends enjoyed a scrumptious afternoon tea at Cacennau Cil y Coed, raising funds in the process.

“One of the things Elena enjoys is a good panad. She even had a nibble on a cheese sandwich on the day, a big achievement for her!"

Team Elena is not finished yet, however.

“Our next big event will take place on Saturday, 22 July (Sesiwn Fawr Saturday), and we have teamed up with the festival organisers to put on a child-focused event in the Free Library in Dolgellau,” Olwen added.

“There will be cake decorating and pom pom-making workshops, storytelling, a craft corner, baby chill-out area, singing and bubbles, craft stalls, games and more.

“We will of course have an information point to raise awareness of the Child Growth Foundation, and the funds raised from this event will be split equally between the charity and Cylch Meithrin Dolgellau."

Olwen is currently trying to source items for the Free Library tombola.

If anyone would like to donate, they can leave items at Gwin Dylanwad in Dolgellau or Cylch Meithrin Dolgellau.
