The Welsh Tug of War Association chose Aberaeron as the venue for their national championships for a second year.

A large crowd from all over Wales and the borders created a carnival atmosphere in the sun-drenched Cae Sgwâr Arena as they cheered their teams on.

Two of the teams battling it out were from Llanddewi Brefi.

The Welsh Tug of War Association Cup for the best overall performance in the Ladies’ section was won by Hermon, and Llanboidy won the Cyril Phillips Trophy for the best overall performance in the men’s competitions.

The results were: Men’s 600k, 1st Llanboidy; Ladies’ 560k, 1st Trecastle; Men’s 720k, 1st Hay on Wye; Ladies’ 520k, 1st Hermon; Jr Men 560k, 1st Llanrwst; Men’s 640k, 1st Hay on Wye; Ladies’ 580k, 1st Glamorgan; Men’s 600k, 1st Cupids Hill; Ladies 540k, 1st Cupida Hill; Men’s 560k, 1st Llanboidy; Men’s 680k, 1st Llanboidy; Gensby rule, 1st Trecastle.
