A Ceinws woman has shaved her head to raise money for Cylch Meithrin Corris.
Tegwen Brickley braved the shave because funds are “vitally needed” for the cylch organisation which “has been experiencing a financial shortfall due to the impacts of the Covide-19 pandemic”.
“Over the last 50 years the cylch has cared for hundreds of children, providing a nurturing welsh language pre-school,” Tegwen added.
“The effects of the pandemic on the ability to hold any of our normal planned fundraising meals, films, craft sessions and other events has had a serious financial impact and has led to some creative thinking.”
Such thinking has led to Tegwen’s decision to cut off her hair and shave her head on Sunday, 18 October.
She hoped her efforts would raise £500 and a gofundme page was set up for people to donate.
Commenting on the amount raised, Tegwen said: “It went really well. We are close to £2,000 including gift aid.
“We are so delighted by everyone’s generosity and support and feel that with the money raised we have a fighting chance of getting through this school year.”
In November children from the cylch will boost funds further by taking part in sponsored walks with their families.
Tegwen said: “We are very proud of our cylch.
“The committee and staff work exceptionally hard.
“There is a family feel to this small cylch set in the grounds of Ysgol Dyffryn Dulas Corris.”
