In mid December 2020 I had the misfortune to fall down the steps of a bank in Lampeter onto the pavement due to misted spectacles caused by wearing a mask.
As a result I was in an enormous amount of pain, but had no idea how bad things were until I had a hip X-ray at Bronglais Hospital at the end of January. It was such a shock to be told that I had fractured my hip and would have to stay overnight in hospital so that I could have an operation for a total hip replacement the following morning.
I did not have time to dwell on it as I was taken to Ceredig ward overnight and had to inform my family of my plight.
I wish to convey my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care I received at Bronglais. Firstly the theatre team were fantastic and put me at ease before the operation, explained what they were doing and reassured me.
On returning to Ceredig ward, I was equally impressed with the wonderful staff who were so encouraging, helpful and friendly, so that despite making good progress, I was sorry to leave.
Every member of staff were so caring and friendly and the physiotherapists were incredibly helpful and patient, it was like being part of an extended family.
Suffice to say that my admiration for the staff knows no bounds. To be so professional, competent, caring in these extremely trying times deserves the highest accolade. I can only hope that you will all have a better new year, I am sure mine will be.
