Madam,

In the ledger pre-2006 the home was full to capacity, with a waiting list up to 20. At the public meeting last year at Ysgol Llwyn yr Eos school a carer from a private home near Aberystwyth said the home was full to capacity with a waiting list.

Closing Bodlondeb was not because the rooms were too small. If that was the case why send residents out of the home to smaller rooms? Bodlondeb was suitable for providing residential care, for those in need in various stages of dementia, and those needing physical and respite care.

To add salt to the wound, you can now purchase the ex-home for less than £300,000, with 50 bedrooms. My three-bedroomed house is valued at £180,000, so a valuation of £300,000 for Bodlondeb is scandalous!

How many people choose to have care delivered in their own homes, where options are limited and unaffordable? What are the innovative new ways of supporting people to stay in their own homes?

In the three years I have been a volunteer with hospice at home, Aberystwyth it has been shown that support from the state is not fit for purpose.

You might think that you have everything in the world but, if you cannot be there for each other, you do not have anything.

Yours etc

Dai Thomas, Friend of Bodlondeb, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
