I am writing in response to L J Jenkins’s letter (25 February) in which he casts doubt on global warming by quoting the cold temperatures of two weeks ago.

We are aware of Mr Jenkins’s opinions on climate change, and his negative views on wind turbines haven’t gone unnoticed either.

As a young person who studies geography at Aberystwyth University, I am saddened. It is my generation who will suffer the immense consequences of the climate emergency.

The odd temperature here or there in the UK does not alter the overall frightening increase in global temperatures which is already causing tremendous floods, forest fires, storms, glaciers melting, I could go on.

This increase in temperature in the global climate (which is the average temperature across a period of 30 years) is man-made but we can counteract and slow that increase down significantly through proper action.

I am standing in the forthcoming Senedd elections because I am willing to do something about this problem.Solutions exist.

Clean, green energy generation is needed so, yes to wind turbines, yes to solar power, yes to the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon, no to nuclear, no to fossil fuels, and a big yes to reducing our consumption of energy by insulating our homes and improving public transport, creating jobs in the process.
